![]() ![]() Overall he really couldn't be doing much better under the circumstances. He's still on one painkiller/anti-inflammatory but tomorrow they'll start cutting that back too and see how he handles it. His blood work is back to normal, he's being offered free-choice hay, and he's now on oral antibiotics. ![]() Since it was removed yesterday morning he's been much more comfortable and hasn't had any more colic episodes. The vets decided to take his drain out to see if that helped and that seems to have been the answer. It could have been caused by any number of things - he was eating more, the abdominal drain was uncomfortable, post-op adhesions were forming, he's been off IV painkillers.lots of possibilities. Monday night and Tuesday morning he was a bit colicky again, which was concerning but not unexpected. Junior's had a pretty good couple of days! ![]() We’ll post another update early next week once he’s officially back home and settled in. Thank you to everyone who has been rooting for him these last 10 days, and to everyone who has sent in donations to help with his bills. Junior is also available for sponsorship: If you missed the previous updates about Junior’s colic and subsequent surgery, you can scroll back through the last week’s posts for more information. If you’d like to help cover Junior’s vet bills, you can make a one-time donation: or mail checks to PO Box 361, Corolla NC 27927 Photo is from last summer, during better times that we can hopefully look forward to again soon. We are so excited to share with everyone that Junior is coming home from the hospital tomorrow! He still has several more months of recovery ahead of him and will require intensive care and monitoring but he will be HOME. If you'd like to sponsor Junior and help with his care, you can do so through our website. Now that we are breathing a little bit easier we will try to get back to business as usual around here - the world has not stopped turning, despite how the last two weeks have felt! But we'll continue to post regular updates on Junior's recovery as well. And of course your support has played a major role as well. It would be easy to say that the fact that he's still here with us is nothing short of a miracle, but truly it's because of the exceptional care he's received from our staff and amazing veterinary team. He's settled into his new routine as a stalled pony, is enjoying his daily walks, checking in with his friends, and really loves his 24/7 access to that yummy second cutting hay. He got his staples out on Friday and our vet said he's looking great. Today marks a week since we brought Junior home from the hospital, and he continues to do better and better every day. ![]()
